The Associate in Business - DTA allows you to transfer to a public four-year institution such as the University of Washington, Central Washington University, Western Washington University or Eastern Washington University. This degree requires that you have the general requirements of the first two years of college:

  1. English 101 and 201, 270 or 271 (ENGL 201 or 271 recommended*)
  2. Math 156, 157 (Math 157 is not required for EWU but is required for the Business Transfer Degree)
  3. Three different discipline rule in each distribution category: Humanities, Social Science, and Science (1 lab and 1 non-lab) WSU requires a political science course and a Speech course (100, 200, 220 or 225)
  4. Cultural Diversity requirement can be fulfilled within Humanities & Social Science

In addition, there are business prerequisites in accounting, law, statistics, and economics for admission to state university business schools:

  1. Acctg 210, 220, 230 financial and managerial accounting
  2. Economics 201 and 200 micro and macro economics
  3. BA 200 (UW Seattle/ Bothell/Tacoma, CWU, WWU) or GBUS 202 law (WSU, EWU, UW Bothell/Tacoma, WWU, CWU)
  4. BA 240 statistics

Note that most of these business schools require that you have a minimum of C grade in any of these courses in order to apply. Also note that these are requirements for the Business Transfer degree and will allow you to transfer to any public institution. Some universities have lower minimum requirements.

Taking courses in the correct sequence can enhance the student's chances for success so it's important that you consult with an advisor before you register for courses. Also, being organized and planning your courses will give you a head start in the registration process. The reason for this suggested order is to ensure that you take courses in the right sequence and mix. It's best to hone your writing and quantitative skills first by taking English and math courses. In general, taking English courses early can help with the writing that is required in Humanities and Social Science courses. All business requirements should be taken after 30 credits are completed. Grades in these courses are given special attention in your admission to a business school so it's better to take them after you've taken other courses. Educational planning sheet: Map out your future quarters with an advisor.

ECON 201 (micro) should be taken before ECON 200 (macro). Taking ACCTG 210, 220 and 230 in three consecutive quarters is best strategy as is taking your Math courses in consecutive quarters.

If you don't assess into English 101 and Math 156, you may have to take other courses before you start this suggested sequence. Be aware that if you have any questions about your assessment in English and Math you have to contact the English Program at 425-564-2341 or the Math Program at 425-564-2321.
