BC Volleyball Wins Three Matches in Six Days
The Bellevue Bulldogs volleyball team began a six-day schedule of matches by hosting the Everett Trojans at home Wednesday, Oct. 19, and taking the win in three games 25-8, 25-15 and 25-22. The Bulldogs were led by Libero Madison Agnew with a passing average of 2.66 (on a scale of 3) and 17 digs in the match. Outside hitter Laura Friar led the Bulldog offense with 13 kills followed by outside hitter Lauren Zilke and right side Sammy Minnig with eight kills each, and middle blocker Jessicca Weitman with six. Zilke had three aces in the match to add to the Bulldog offense. Setter Krista Groves had 33 assists.
Next match, on Friday, Oct. 21, Bellevue
Finally, on Monday, Oct. 24, the Bulldogs paid a visit to Whatcom CC in Bellingham, and defeated the Orcas in three games 25-23, 25-19, 25-21. Kill leader Friar had 28 kills (a whopping 9.3 kills per game),with kills by Zilke and setter Groves at seven and five, respectively. Agnew lead the defensive effort with 23 digs followed by Friar, Zilke, Groves and Biesheuvel with 12, 10, 10 and 8, respectively. Bellevue’s serve receive struggled early in the match and slowly got better led by Biesheuvel passing a 2.17 (based on a 3.0 scale) and Zilke passing a 2.04.
Key serves came from Morgan de Carteret at the end of game three. With the score 22-21, de Carteret served a killer ace taking the Bulldogs to 23-21. With a time out called to ice the BC server, de Carteret stepped back up to the serving line and served another ace upping the score to 24-21. A significant a game-ending block secured Bellevue’s lead in the Northern Region. "It was an impressive and much-needed win," coach Kim Culliton said, "we need to show ourselves how talented we are when we focus. Last night we did that."
Bulldogs outside hitter, Laura Friar, was voted All NWAACC Offensive Player of the Week for week seven of the season.
After a well-earned rest, Bellevue hits the road Friday, Nov. 4, to take on Olympic College in Bremerton. Game time 7 p.m.
