Bulldogs Drop Two at Home to Pierce
March 19, 2011

Bellevue College baseball dropped two games to visiting Pierce on Saturday March 19 by scores of 5-2 and 7-4. Both games were won by the Raiders in the final inning.  In game one, both teams were gridlocked in a 1-1 tie. Nathan Bunch, a former starter at Brigham Young University two years ago, held Bellevue’s bats in check, scattering four hits throughout the game. Tyler Cox hit a solo blast in the seventh into the trees in left field. It was Cox’s second of the year, and thirteenth of the season so far for the team.

In game two, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 4-0 lead before the Raiders battled back to a 4-3 deficit. In the 9th, a throwing error after two hits and a hit batter by reliever Jonathan Humphrie, allowed Pierce to tack on four runs for the win. Starting pitcher Michael Curtis was strong through four innings, allowing one run on three hits. Cox continued his hot hitting with two hits while the game also marked the return of Emmett Niland, a sophomore catcher  who has been out for three months with a back injury.

After completion of academic finals, the Bulldogs will travel to Arizona to play seven games in a four-day stretch which includes stints against two minor league professional clubs (Mariners, Giants).
