Background: Part-time starter in center field in '08...Two-year letter-winner at Woodinville HS for Coach Terry Agnew…team won KingCo 4A title last spring with a 19-4 record…was named All-KingCo 4A and Second Team All-State outfielder…played in the All-State Series in Yakima...named team M.V.P…hit .462 as a senior with 32 runs, 5 doubles, 14 RBI’s, and 18 stolen bases…hit .321 as a junior with 18 stolen bases that season also…team won KingCo 4A title with a 19-5 record…played summer ball for Chaffey Baseball for Coach Jim Stewart…hit .392 with 22 stolen bases…named to the all-tourney teams at the prestigious Brandy Pugh Invitational and the N.A.B.F. World Series in Mississippi last July…also a two-year letter-winner in basketball for Coach Jamie Rowe…averaged 16.8 p.p.g. as a senior…was named M.V.P. and team captain…Honorable Mention All-KingCo 4A.
Scouting Report: Bellevue’s team captain…has all the tools to be a frontline player at the CC and potentially at the division I level…great make up mentally, outstanding academics, and physical tools make him one of the top prospects for ’09…outstanding speed who knows how to use it as well…great savvy as a baseball player…brings a complete game to the table every day…plus arm with good range with a solid swing who will hit at every level…puts out 100% during both practice and games.
Personal: Born November 7, 1988 in Seattle, WA…son of Dave and Cindy Shelton…one brother Justin (17)…grandfather played baseball at Idaho, mom was a member of the swim team at UW…chose Bellevue because of the academics, coaches, and successful winning history…heard about Bellevue’s program from summer coach Jim Stewart…also considered attending Columbia Basin College and Gonzaga…lists greatest baseball thrill as winning the KingCo title against Lake Washington…dedicating season to his family…self-described as goofy…goals for this year are to stay healthy, be a good teammate, and be able to transfer to a division I program.
