BASEBALL TAKES SERIES AGAINST SHORELINE
The Bellevue Community College baseball team won their second league series in a row, by taking three of four games against Shoreline Community College. With the wins, Bellevue improves to 6-2 in division play, and 17-8 overall. Bellevue starting their winning ways by taking game one by the score of 3-2 in extra innings. With the game tied at 2-2 going into the bottom of the eighth inning, Lucas Shaw led off with a double off of Shoreline pitcher Phil Hackney. Shaw later advanced to third on a passed ball. With one out, Hunter Beaty stepped up to the plate to drive in the winning run with an RBI single. Starting pitcher Ryan Davis battled through 5 innings, allowing just 1 unearned run, 3 hits, and striking out 5. Chad Mautner came in to throw three innings of solid relief to pick up his first victory of the season. In game two on Saturday, Bellevue got the scoring parade started early, plating 9 runs in the bottom of the first inning, to establish a lead that proved to be all they needed. Shortstop Jeff Hanna set the tone by reaching base twice in the first inning and scoring the first run of the game by stealing home. Bellevue went on to score 1 run in the second, and 5 more in the fifth. Hanna and Connor Rankin each had two hits a piece for Bellevue, including a big RBI double by Rankin. Starting pitcher, Stephen Foster threw 5 innings, allowing only 1 unearned run, and 1 hit, while striking out 5. With the victory, he improves his record to 2-2 on the year. Kaylor Hasbargen also threw 1 scoreless inning of relief. In game three of the series, Bellevue sophomore pitcher Brad Reid threw a complete game shut out to help lead Bellevue to a 3-0 win in the series clincher. Reid went 7 innings strong, allowing only 2 hits and striking out 7. With the victory, Reid improved his record to 4-0, and lowered his team leading ERA to 0.53. Bellevue got all the offense they needed in the fourth inning when Keegan Acker led the inning off with a single, followed by a RBI triple by Jason Moseby, and a RBI single by Riley Tompkins. In the final game of the series, Bellevue let one get away from them with an 8-2 loss to at the hands of the Dolphins. Starting pitcher Troy Burki took the loss after battling some control problems, and some sloppy defensive play. Burki gave up 7 runs, while only 3 were earned, allowing 5 hits, and 5 base-on balls. With the loss Burki’s record goes to 1-2 on the season. Cody Goodfellow threw 5 innings of solid relief only allowing 1 run and 2 hits while striking out 5. Hunter Beaty hit his first home run of the season, and catcher Gio Learned hit an RBI single to provide all of the offense in the final game for Bellevue. |
