BULLDOGS WIN TWO IN ARIZONA
The BCC baseball team left the winter wonderland conditions in the northwest and headed south to sun picking up two victories against the top competition in the region. On Friday March 21, the Bulldogs found themselves playing two different teams in one day. In the afternoon BCC dropped a game again Elgin CC out of Illinois. Bellevue bounced back hours later defeating Phoenix College 12-9 in a slugfest. Sophomores Will Campbell and Jason Moseby and freshman Michael Robertson provided the punch for the Bulldogs, with Campbell going 3 for 5 driving in 2, Robertson adding 3 hits of his own while driving in 3 and scoring once, and Moseby going an impressive 4 for 4, scoring 3 times. Sophomore pitcher Steven Foster picked up the win going 3 innings strong giving up only 1 earned run. Freshman Brent Miller went two innings also giving up only 1 earned run to pick up the save. BCC was not as fortunate the next afternoon dropping a double header to the same Phoenix squad. Playing their 5th game in 3 days, Bellevue refused to wilt in the desert heat, holding on to defeat Central Arizona 6-5. Robertson, Moseby, and freshman Riley Tompkins each collected 2 hits while sophomore Ryan Davis went 6 innings giving up only 1 run while striking out 4 to pick up the victory. In a unique opportunity, BCC got their crack against a team of major league players on March 24, taking on the San Francisco Giants rookie team. The Bulldogs held their own, keeping the game tied going into the 7th inning before falling 13-9. Sophomore Nick Johnson led the way for Bellevue, going a perfect 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs and 2 Runs scored. Robertson and sophomore Connor Rankin added 2 hits apiece Sophomore Brad Reid got the start going 5 innings giving up only 1 earned run while striking out 4. |
