WOMEN’S SOCCER GREAT SEASON ENDS WITH SECOND ROUND PLAYOFF At the completion of regular season play, the Bulldogs Women’s Soccer team earned hosting rights for the first-round playoff match against Edmonds (6-5-2, third in North) Weds., Nov. 11 at the Sammamish HS soccer field. Bellevue scored first at 14 minutes with a corner kick by freshman Brittney Conway, slipping by the Tritons’ goalkeeper. Edmonds’ tie goal came at 55 minutes and despite scoring opportunities neither team was able to score again, ending regulation time at a 1-1 tie. The match churned on, with two 10-minute overtime sessions -- also scoreless -- and moved into penalty kicks. After the five penalty kick shootout (with shots for BC being made by Kayla Kasper, Conway and Morgan Wood) resulted in yet another tie at 3-3, penalty kicks continued. In 6th set of penalty kicks, Edmonds made their goal, then BC freshman Wilhelmina Giese made a critical shot to keep Bellevue in the game. In 7th set of penalty kicks, Bellevue’s goalkeeper sophomore Kristina Myles made save to give BC the chance to win, but BC was unable to make goal. In 8th set of penalty kicks, Edmonds’ shot missed over the crossbar, and freshman Shelby Blair converted the Bellevue shot for the win! The second-round playoffs took the Bulldogs to Salem, OR, Sat., Nov. 14, to face the Chemeketa Storm (11-1-1, first in South). Chemeketa struck with an early score in the 9th minute, then BC’s Conway responded with a strong looping shot over the ChCC goalkeeper in the 21st minute on a pass from freshman Deirdre Dornay. Chemeketa slipped in another goal, bringing the score at halftime to 2-1. Chemeketa was again the first to score in the second half, followed by a long shot by BC’s Blair at 75 minutes, bringing the score to 3-2. Bellevue searched for the tying goal, but ChCC closed the match with a goal at the 85th minute for a final of 4-2, knocking Bellevue out of the Women’s Soccer NWAACC Final Four. Head Coach Frank Lee commented that he was pleased with how the team came together strong at the end of the season, noting that prior to the final game, the Bulldogs were on a five-game winning streak. Congratulations and thanks for a great season, Bulldogs! WOMEN’S SOCCER 2ND PLACE IN DIVISION BC Bulldogs traveled to Auburn Weds., Nov. 4, to tangle with the fourth-ranked Green River Gators on their own turf. Before the first half was over, Bellevue held a 2-0 lead on goals by freshmen Brittney Conway and Deirdre Dornay off assists by freshmen Nicole Smith and Kayla Kasper. In the second half, Bellevue’s Jaclyn Smith and Kasper went on to score two solo goals for the Bulldogs, but the Gators were able to muster only two in answer, closing out the match for Bellevue at 4-2. The rescheduled match between division rivals BC and Olympic College took place Nov. 9 at Robinswood Park. The Rangers jumped off to a quick start, scoring 7 minutes into the game, but the Bulldogs responded well, playing a possession game for almost all of the first half. The equalizing goal was earned by Jaclyn Smith in the 44th minute after a corner kick from Conway. As in previous meetings, both teams continued to make strong scoring opportunities in the second half. At minute 75, Jaclyn Smith dribbled the ball to the Olympic end line, sent a cross in front of the goal, setting up Conway to put a first-touch volley straight into the net, wrapping up the game for Bellevue 2-1. With the win over Olympic, Bellevue Women’s Soccer (7-5-2, 7-7-2) closed out the regular season in second place behind Tacoma (8-6-0) in the West Division, and earned hosting rights for the first-round playoffs. Bellevue will take on Edmonds (6-5-2, third in North) Weds., Nov. 11, at 1 p.m. at the Sammamish High School soccer field. Depending on the outcome of the Veteran’s Day match, Bellevue could end up traveling to Salem, OR, Sat., Nov. 14, where they would face Chemeketa CC (11-1-1, first in South) in second-round playoffs. WOMEN’S SOCCER SHUTS OUT TACOMA Following a blustery week, the beautiful fall afternoon of Sat., Oct. 31, Halloween, turned out to be full of treats for the BC women’s soccer team as they rolled over second place rivals, the Tacoma Titans by a score of 3-0. BC freshman midfielder Jaclyn Smith, assisted by sophomore Morgan Wood, whipped in the first goal at the 5-minute mark. Smith received the ball 20 yards in front of the goal, behind the Tacoma defense, and made a nice finishing shot. Late in the first half, freshman Bulldog Brittney Conway scored from a penalty kick due to a Tacoma tripping foul inside the penalty area. One minute later, BC’s Kayla Kasper scored with a 25-yard power shot off a nice pass back assist from Smith. BC goalkeepers Janelle Gobbato and Kristina Myles shared half game in goal to shutout Tacoma, each making great saves of quality TCC shots. This final week in the regular season, the Bulldogs travel to Green River (3-8-1) on Nov. 4, game time 1 p.m., then return to the BC Soccer Field to host West region first place Olympic (5-5-3, 7-6-3-) on Sat., Nov. 7, at 12 p.m. BC WOMEN’S SOCCER INTENSE Wed., Oct. 21, Bulldog Women’s Soccer, played a tough back-and-forth game at host Olympic College which holds first place in the NWAACC West women’s soccer standings. Although OC got in one more before the half, it would be their last. The Bulldogs came back in the second half with poise, intensity and confidence. BC freshman Brittney Conway, on a feed pass assist from freshman Jackie Smith, zipped in a counter attacking goal, followed only two minutes later by a nice looping shot by sophomore Jannely Quintana, received from a free kick by sophomore defender Kayla Longaker.
