Rodriguez and Jones Carry Bulldogs in Wins
In the final two cross-divisional contests for the women's soccer team, Freshman Gabriella Rodriguez and Sophomore Alexis Jones carried the team to their two wins last week over Edmonds and Shoreline.
On Wednesday the fourth-ranked Bulldogs headed up north to take on fifth-ranked Edmonds CC at Lynnwood HS. The solid play from the team continued as what looked to be a very tight game on paper, amounted to a lopsided game in favor of the Bulldogs. In the 11th minute of the game, Rodriguez got the team on the board giving them the 1-0 lead. Jones gave Bellevue a 2-0 lead with her first score of the game coming in the 41st minute. In the 82nd minute, Treva LeRoy made the score 3-0 and Jones struck again for her second score of the game just seconds before the final whistle in the 89th minute. Sophomore goalkeeper Brianna Jackson earned her fourth shutout of the season as the Bulldogs secured the 4-0 victory.
On Saturday Oct. 1st, the Bulldogs played host to Shoreline CC. Rodriguez (Nathan Hale HS) was able to provide another early goal coming in the 3rd minute to give the team the lead. Shoreline was able to accomplish the rare feat of getting the ball past Bellevue goalkeeper Jackson in the 12th minute knotting up the score. After the half, Rodriguez capitalized again, with her third goal of the week and second in the game, on a scoring opportunity in the 65th minute on an assist by Rachel Anderson putting the women ahead 2-1.
With the wins, fourth-ranked Bellevue remains in second place in the West Division at 4-0-2 in league play and 4-2-2 overall. This Wednesday, October 5th, Bellevue will play host to Olympic College, kicking off divisional play. Kickoff is set for 2:00 PM
