Bellevue women’s soccer traveled to Eugene, Oregon, November 9 to take on Lane CC in the first-round playoffs for a shot at the NWAACC Women’s Soccer Championship Tournament. The Bulldogs lost a heartbreaker in double overtime when Lane scored off a corner in the 105th minute, and took a 1-0 victory into the second round of playoffs.
Bellevue battled the entire way of the game, stepping up in the second half and in the overtime period. It was the play of BC co-captain Brianna Jackson that kept the Bulldogs in the game in the first half. "Bri stepped it up in the right moment all year for us, both on and off the field," commented BC Head Coach Tao Shen. “We found our second wind into the second half and had some really good opportunities by Rachel Anderson and Treva LeRoy,” continued Shen. “Overall it was hard to beat a team like Lane when we suffered a few injuries towards the end of the year, but the players really fought every step along the way. We are proud of their efforts.” Bellevue women close out their season with a 7-5-4 West region record, 7-8-4 overall season.
Coach Shen extended special thanks to the graduating players. “These student-athletes spent many hours on the pitch and in the classroom representing Bellevue College. As coaches and the whole athletic department, we couldn’t be more proud of their hard work and dedication. It’s bittersweet seeing them leave, but wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors.”
Leanne Ciriaco- One of our two players standing just five feet tall, “Tiny” has brought great attitude to our team; always so serious in every training and games. It’s true to the saying, “Good things come in small packages.”
Alexis Jones- “Lexi” has brought so much fire and fight to the team. Thank you for being a great role model on and off the field.
Co-captain Treva LeRoy- Treva has been the rock in our back line. She has so much potential in this game and will continue to play this game at the next level. Thank you for your determination and perseverance.
Co-captain Brianna Jackson- “Bri” has been instrumental in our success in our program this year. She exemplifies true leadership: caring for her players on one side and also laying down the law on the other. With Bri, you’ll never know what you’ll get, but you’ll always know her heart in the right place. Thank you for caring so much about this program.
