Nicks and Stromberg Named Assistant Coaches at BC
May 3, 2012
Jill Nicks and Tyler Stromberg have been named assistant coaches for the women’s soccer team at Bellevue College. "I am excited to announce that coach Nicks and Stromberg have joined the staff here at Bellevue College," said Shen. "Their knowledge, enthusiasm, and passion for the game are contagious. Both will add quality to our team in our quest to establish a top-notch program in the NWAACC."
Coach Nicks comes to BC with much coaching experience from the club and high school ranks. Nicks is currently coaching at DOS FC within the GU-10 pool (Red/White/Black: A/B/C Teams respectively), the GU-9 Academy, and also assists with GU-15 Red. She is looking to coach GU-17/16 with the new Pacific Northwest SC which competes as a regional soccer club. Apart from coaching at the club level, Nicks is heavily involved with Seattle Sounders FC Youth Development as a camp site director and coach. Nicks also spent the last three years as assistant varsity girls’ soccer coach and assistant track & field coach for one year at the Bush School.
“I am eager and excited about this opportunity to work with both the coaching staff at Bellevue College, and with this unique group of dedicated women. Go Bulldogs!” says Nicks.
Nicks was a scholarship athlete at Oregon State University. She was selected as an Honorable Mention All-Pacific-Ten Conference team member in ’01 and ’02. In addition, Nicks was also given the Academic-Athlete Award for four years. Nicks graduated from Oregon State with a Bachelors of Liberal Arts in French and Minor in Exercise Physiology. In ’09 she received a Masters in French Studies from the University of Washington.
Nicks took her soccer career overseas to France and played with L’Olympique Lyonnais women’s team while studying abroad in Lyon, France.
Nicks is a certified personal trainer by the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and currently holds a United States Soccer Federation “D” coaching license pursuing her “C”.
Coach Nicks will take the role as the lead assistant with the women's program. Her role will be to collaborate with the head coach in all aspects in running the women's program; in particular with planning for training sessions, player development, and making tactical decisions.
Stromberg comes to BC after coaching Renton Christian School in their inaugural season last fall. Prior to coaching at Renton Christian, Stromberg served as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Azusa Pacific University, coaching the goalkeepers.
“I'm really excited about the opportunity to coach the men and women at Bellevue College. Having worked with Tao and knowing the quality that he brings to any side, I jumped at the chance to help out. What put the icing on the cake was knowing that it will be at a school with as much history and pride in the programs as Bellevue College,” noted Stromberg.
Stromberg was an assistant coach at Glendora HS for both the boys’ and girls’ varsity teams from 2008-2011. They were league champions in 2010.
Stromberg attended Eastside Catholic HS where he was awarded All-Metro honors twice. Stromberg played his collegiate career at Azusa Pacific University from 2006-2009. In ’06 he helped the Cougars reach the NAIA national championship, losing in penalty kicks. Stromberg found himself playing again in a second consecutive national championship game in ’07, only this time winning. Stromberg ended his collegiate career as the all-time leader with a .60 GAA and two-time National Defensive Player of the Week honor.
Coach Stromberg will focus on goalkeepers for both the men's and women's programs. In addition, he will serve as a scout for both programs and also serves as an advisor for helping our student-athletes to play at the next level.
