BULLDOGS TIE TACOMA
October 2, 2007
The Women’s Soccer team played two opponents tough this week in their bid to resurrect the program after a one-year hiatus last season. On September 26 the Bulldogs traveled to Yakima to play the Yaks of Yakima Valley Community College. After playing a tough first half, the Bulldog defense fell apart in the second half, yielding four goals on route to a 6-2 setback. Freshman Melissa Lorentson (FR, Eastlake HS) was a bright spot for Bellevue, scoring both goals— the second on an assist from Sarah Levinson (SO, Bellevue HS)— for the Bulldogs.
Bellevue’s next match at home on September 29 proved to be a strong step forward, as the Bulldogs battled to a 2-2 tie with Tacoma. Lorentson was in the thick of things again, scoring both of Bellevue’s goals once more. Daniela Gonzales (FR, Tahoma HS) assisted on Lorentson’s first goal in the 65th minute. The second shot came in the final minutes of the game, a strike in the 87th minute to tie the score and send the match into extra time.
This week Bellevue will travel to southwestern Washington for a pair of road games. The Bulldogs will square off against Lower Columbia College in Longview on September 5 at 4:00pm, then will move further south to take on Clark College in Vancouver, WA on September 6th at 12:00pm.
