BC WOMEN RACK UP TWO WINS AND ON TO THE NWAACC TOURNAMENT
March 2, 2010

Bellevue women traveled to Everett Weds., Feb. 24, to face the North Division third place Trojans, with an eye to securing BC’s place in the Division, as well as seeding in the upcoming NWAACC Basketball Championship Tournament. As Everett is in the process of building a new gym, the game was played on a smaller court at the Marysville Boys & Girls Club, and the Bulldogs geared up for a tough, close battle. Bellevue freshman Olivia Lewis started things rolling in the opening seconds of the game hitting two 3-pointers back-to-back. Lewis ended up with 11 on the evening.

Six-foot sophomore Kayla Haines, who had been out ill since Bellevue’s game against Skagit, came off the bench to provide 12 points and 8 rebounds, plus going six-for-six from the free throw line. Team scoring leader once again was Maddie Miller with 14 points and 5 rebounds. Alisha Love posted 11 points, including hitting two huge free throws at the end of the game to put Everett’s comeback just out of reach with the final score 59-54.

The final game of regular season play Bellevue hosted Edmonds Sat., Feb. 27. The Bulldogs got off to another hot start, running up 20 unanswered points in the first five minutes of the game with sophomore Amy Rochowiak dishing out a couple of assists early on to get the BC offense flowing. Lewis knocked down early 3-pointers on her way to a 15-point game. Haines contributed 13 points, 9 rebounds and 3 steals to help the Bulldogs to an overwhelming 76-46 win.

The Bellevue women completed regular season play in second place in the North Division, with a season record of 14-2, overall 19-7. Next stop is the NWAACC Basketball Championship where they face West Division third place Clark (11-5, 14-9) on Sat., March 6, at 12 p.m. This is the fifth consecutive Tournament appearance for the Bellevue women’s basketball team, and the second under Head Coach Brent Hermanson.
