BULLDOG WOMEN PREVAIL IN THREE
January 19, 2010

Bellevue College women’s basketball hosted Olympic College Weds., Jan. 13, and added another at-home win by defeating the Rangers 76-40. Leading the Bulldogs in scoring were Alisha Love and freshman Kelly Sutherland, each contributing 14 points, while Kayla Haines hit a double-double knocking in 12 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman Maddie Miller and sophomore Amy Rochowiak each pulled down 11 rebounds.

Sat., Jan. 16, the Bellevue women went to Mount Vernon to face their toughest North Division opponent so far, perennial rival Skagit Valley College. The Bulldogs pulled out all stops and played a great all-around team game to win by a score of 64-56. Sutherland led Bulldogs scoring with 17 points, while Haines posted 14. Bellevue freshman Olivia Lewis was big with 15 points, including a couple of key free throws down the stretch to keep Bulldogs’ game security. Love was stellar on defense, shutting down Skagit’s leading scorer.

Still on fire, the Bellevue women rolled onto the North Seattle campus Mon., Jan. 18, where they notched their third victory in less than a week. Haines hammered in 20 points for the Bulldogs on the way to a 80-54 victory over the Storm. Love sank an additional 12 points, as Sutherland provided 10 rebounds to keep the ball moving for the Bulldogs, and lock in their current first place spot in the North Division.

Two home games next in the Bellevue gym: Weds., Jan. 20, at 5:30 p.m., the Bulldogs (5-0, 10-5) take on Whatcom (3-2, 3-7), followed by a visit from Everett (3-2, 7-7), Sat., Jan. 23, with 4:00 p.m. tip-off. Saturday’s game will be televised live on BC Channel 28.
