WOMEN’S BASKETBALL FIFTH AT CROSSOVER
December 23, 2009
Bellevue Women’s Basketball team traveled south to Longview, WA, to participate in the Crossover Tournament at Lower Columbia College Dec. 18-20. The first team the Bulldogs faced was number one-ranked Lane CC. Though the BC women started off on a 12-2 run, powerhouse Lane battled back and, after a valiant effort from BC, the Bulldogs still fell short, losing to Lane 47-66.
Saturday, the Bulldogs came back to attack South Puget Sound CC. Bellevue fought hard and got a much-needed spark from freshman guard Olivia Lewis who posted 18 points, including four three-pointers. Sophomore standout Tiffany Shen followed with 11 points, and freshman Danyelle Grayer added 9, to lift Bellevue over South Puget Sound 65-54.
Sunday saw Lewis continue her hot shooting with 10 points, and 5’-9” freshman Maddie Miller also had 10 points, with Grayer contributing 9, but the Bulldogs were unable to pull out a victory over Columbia Basin, losing with a final score of 60-77, to take fifth place at the Crossover. BC assistant coach Allyse Carlson said, summing up the weekend, “Although we fell to Columbia Basin and went 1-2 over the weekend, we still showed a lot of potential. All four of our losses have been to NWAACC tournament contenders, but we are playing right with them and are seeing lots of potential greatness within our team.”
The Bulldogs (5-4) make the long trek to Ontario, OR, to take on East Division contender Treasure Valley (7-1) Dec. 29.
