BULLDOGS DROP HEARTBREAKER TO HIGHLINE
December 5, 2007
The BCC Women's Basketball team lost a tough game at home on Tuesday December 4, narrowly defeated by Highline Community College 61-63.
The Bulldogs came out of the gate strong, sprinting to an early 10-4 lead, and held a 30-28 advantage at the half. Behind cold Bulldog shooting, the Thunderbirds surged ahead in the second half, leading by as many as six points. HCC held a 63-58 lead with just thirteen seconds remaining, but the Bulldogs would not go quietly. Sophomore co-captain Alicia Tennyson banked in a three pointer from the right wing with 3.5 seconds remaining to cut the deficit to 2 points, and BCC called a quick timeout to set up a their press defense. Unfortunately, Highline proved too quick in the backcourt, inbounding the ball and racing away from BCC defenders as time expired.
6'1" sophomore center Marissa Bower turned in a monster night for Bellevue, leading all scorers and rebounders with 23 points and 11 boards. Tennyson contributed 13 points, and guard Whiteny Beyerlin added 10 of her own. Highline was paced by Vanessa Bains, who scored 17 points.
Next up, the Bulldogs will travel to Longview, WA to take on Lower Columbia College on December 8. Game time is scheduled for 6:00pm.
