WOMEN'S TENNIS WINS 3RD CONSECUTIVE NWAACC TITLE!
May 23, 2007

For the third time in as many years, the BCC Women’s Tennis team took home the NWAACC Championship.  Head Coach Jason Chapman’s team dominated the NWAACC Championships in Spokane, May 18-20, sweeping all nine events to win their 38th consecutive match and achieve a three-peat.  The Bulldogs were heavily favored going in, having secured number one seeds in eight of the nine events. Ciara Shultz helped lead the way, winning her #1 singles match (the only match where BCC was not the top seed), and teaming with sophomore Patty Nowak to win the #1 doubles match as well.

Winners for BCC:

#1 Singles:  Ciara Shultz (FR, Eisenhower HS) 6-7 (6), 6-0, 6-4
#2 Singles:  Cathy Thom (SO, Jackson HS) 4-6, 6-0, 6-4
#3 Singles:  Courtney Groszhans (FR, Eisenhower HS) 6-1, 1-6, 6-3
#4 Singles:  Katja Kunze (SO, Breiten Teich, Germany) 6-2, 6-1
#5 Singles:  Eri Yoshida (FR, Setagaya-Ku, Tokyo) 6-1, 6-1
#6 Singles:  Tori Jirak (SO, Monroe HS) 6-0, 6-0
#1 Doubles:  Ciara Shultz/Patty Nowak (SO, Interlake HS) 4-6, 6-2, 6-2
#2 Doubles:  Cathy Thom/Courtney Gorszhans 6-0, 6-2
#3 Doubles:  Eri Yoshida/Tori Jirak 6-4, 7-5

Chapman was also honored as the NWAACC Women’s Tennis Coach of the Year, his third consecutive award.  His team is the first BCC team to win an NWAACC title this season, as three others (Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball, and Men’s Soccer) finished runner-up in their respective championship games.
