Softball Wins 8 In a Row
The softball team (15-3, 23-9) had a strong week going 8-0 and taking over 1st place in the North Division. The Bulldogs earned doubleheader sweeps against Shoreline, Olympic, Skagit Valley and Everett.
In the first games of the week April 21, the Bulldogs beat Shoreline (the then-1st place team) 5-1 and 2-0 behind the stellar pitching performances of Michelle Ruby. Ruby picked up both the wins pitching all 14 innings of the doubleheader. In addition, Ruby was 3-4 at the plate with two homeruns and a double in game one driving in all five runs. In game two, Lauren Reid was 4-4 at the plate with a solo homerun.
April 24, the Bulldogs continued their winning ways beating Olympic 3-0 in game
April 26, the Bulldogs got two more wins over Skagit Valley. The games were played at the UW Softball field with Bellevue picking up both wins in two closely contested ballgames. Behind the pitching of Michelle Ruby, the Bulldogs won game one 4-3. Ruby also hit a solo homerun in the first contest, while Lauren Smoot had a two-run RBI triple in the game. In game two, Lauren Reid threw nine strong innings to give the Bulldogs a 4-2 win in extra innings. Megan Zender came up with a big RBI single to give the Bulldogs the lead in the 9th inning. Defensively, the team played strong all week.
The Bulldogs closed out a full week with two wins over Everett April 28. Michelle Ruby and Deavonnie Spadoni both got wins on the mound against Everett with Ruby winning game one 5-0 and Spadoni winning game two 9-3 and also helping herself at the plate hitting a homerun.
The Bulldogs travel to Port Angeles April 29 for another doubleheader to take on Peninsula (5-11); first pitch at 2:00pm.
