Having earned a first-round bye, Bellevue Men’s Soccer hosted Treasure Valley (8-5-0, East third) Sat., Nov. 14, under the lights at Robinswood, and what a battle ensued. TVCC was first on the scoreboard with a goal at the 20th minute, but shortly before halftime, BC freshman Josh Strasser ripped in a goal on an assist from sophomore midfielder Jordan Correa at 38 minutes. The second half remain tied at 1-1 until the 55th minute when Luiggi Montero scored a solo goal, followed five minutes later by the tying goal from TVCC and another Chukars goal at the 65th minute. With 10 minutes left in the match, BC took a shot on goal and were awarded a penalty kick on a TVCC hand ball. BC’s Riccardo Di Julio took the kick and scored, tying the match at 3-3. Hoping to close the deal with five minutes regulation time left, Correa dribbled past his defender and was fouled. BC was awarded another penalty kick which was effectively blocked by the TVCC keeper. The match headed into two 10-minute sudden death overtimes. Four minutes in, Bellevue’s Strasser beat his defender, took a shot on goal and though the keeper got a hand on it, BC freshman Radcliff McDougald was there to finish it off. Score! MEN’S SOCCER SHARES DIVISION CROWN Once again, the weather was a factor Sat., Nov. 7, when Bellevue was scheduled to host Olympic College to close out regular season play. A mini-monsoon Saturday morning made the BC Soccer field unplayable, causing postponement of both the BC women’s and men’s matches to Monday, Nov. 9. Monday, the venue was changed to Robinswood Park. Now, in addition to sharing the West Division crown, the Bulldogs were also in the hunt for a first-round bye in the men’s soccer playoffs. The Olympic College Rangers were the only thing standing in their way. The Bulldogs came out kicking with goals being scored by Jesse Sorteberg, Do Hee Kim, Fellipe Barros, Josh Strasser (2), Conner Moe and Radcliff McDougald. Providing assists on the 7 BC goals were Keiichi Ando, Sorteberg, Moe, Luiggi Montero (2) and Dalibor Omazic (2). MEN’S SOCCER ADDS TWO WINS The Bulldogs hosted Highline College Sat., Oct. 24. While Bellevue and Peninsula have been battling out first and second in the NWAACC West men’s soccer standings, Highline has hovered in third position, with the potential for playing the deal breaker, however, that was not to be the case Saturday. Bellevue sophomore midfielder Keiichi Ando scored the first goal at 35 minutes, on an assist from sophomore Matt Eronemo. Ando struck again in the second half, followed by another goal from BC freshman Radcliff McDougald. Highline was able to answer only in the final minutes of a match which the Bulldogs had dominated and ended with the final score of 3-1. Through on-again, off-again rain squalls, both teams battled the elements until Peninsula posted the first goal of the game at the 56th minute. The Bulldogs proved tenacious, hammering at the PC goal until freshman Davis Smith, assisted by freshman Conner Moe, scored the tying goal for Bellevue at 66 minutes. The match ended with the 1-1 tie, leaving Bellevue still holding second place in the West. Saturday, Oct. 3, BC took on Columbia Basin (ranked 2nd in the East Division) and, once again, ended up with a 1-1 tie. This time, the Bulldogs were first to score on a goal by freshman Josh Strasser at 22 minutes, assisted by McDougald, but that was it for the first half. CBC evened up the match in the 69th minute, and that was pretty much it for a beautiful fall afternoon in Pasco. Tough match upcoming when Spokane (4-1-0, 4-6-0) comes to play the Bulldogs (2-1-2, 6-3-2) on the BC soccer field Sat., Oct. 10.
