Bellevue Men’s Soccer Rested For Peninsula
October 18, 2010
The Bellevue College men’s soccer team played against Peninsula College on Saturday October 16th. Being the only match of the week, they got a chance to rest up.
In the opening minutes, Race Sciabica got things going for the Bulldogs with a goal in the 7th minute, assisted by Esteban Reyes. However, things would remain tight until halftime as the score at that point was only 1-1.
Bellevue and Peninsula again traded goals after halftime and the match remained tied late in the half. Captain Josh Guerrero’s goal at minute 55 gave Bellevue the edge but Peninsula responded at minute 62. This set up what turned out to be the game-winning goal from Bellevue’s Josh Strasser scored the final goal of the match at minute 78; thus providing a 3-2 victory for the Bulldogs.
With this win, Bellevue is now tied for first place with Peninsula coincidentally, in the West Region with a league record of 6-2-0. A new NWAACC Coaches’ Poll was released during the week with Bellevue ranked 5th.
Up next for the Bulldogs is a match against Highline Community College on Wednesday October 20 and Olympic College on Saturday October 23. Both will take place at home starting at 4PM and 2PM respectively.
Women’s Soccer Victorious in Close Matches
This past week, the Bellevue College women’s soccer team played two matches against Green River Community College on October 13 and Peninsula College on October 16. Both matches ended 1-0 in favor of Bellevue.
In the first match against Green River, Captain Jamie Lindstrom broke through after both teams went scoreless in the first half. Her goal in the 57th minute, assisted by Jessie Oliver, was the only offense of the day.
Against Peninsula, it was nearly identical how things unfolded during the match. Once again, both teams went scoreless in the first half and for the majority of the match. Lindstrom repeated her feat scoring the game-winning goal in the 80th minute, assisted by Brittney Conway. Brianna Jackson was in goal to record both shutouts.
These matches were in stark contrast to recent games for the women’s team as they had scored four or more goals in four of the last six matches prior to Green River.
The NWAACC Coaches’ Poll was also released for women’s soccer, ranking Bellevue in 4th place. Next for Bellevue are home matches against Highline Community College and Olympic College at home on October 20 and October 23. Start times are 2PM and 12PM.
