BULLDOGS TOP PENINSULA; EGGERS GETS 100TH
February 7, 2008

Jeremy Eggers
Fifth year Head Coach Jeremy Eggers earned his 100th win at BCC on February 6, as his Bulldogs rallied to defeat Peninsula College 67-63.

The BCC men's basketball team kept things interesting atop the Northern Region standings with a gritty 67-63 victory over Peninsula College on February 6. With the win, the Bulldogs moved a half game ahead of the Pirates and into third place in the Norther Region. The win also allows Bellevue (16-7 overall, 8-3 Northern Region) to keep within two games of first place Whatcom Community College.

A rough and tumble first half saw Peninsula take a 34-26 lead into halftime. The Pirates were bolstered by a 9 for 13 first half performance at the freethrow line, whereas Bellevue managed just 1 for 3. A fired up Bulldogs team emerged from the locker-room in the second half, which turned into an epic back-and-forth struggle, as the game featured eight lead changes and seven ties. Peninsula pushed their advantage to 51-39 early in the period, but Bellevue battled back with a 16-4 run to tie the game at 55-55 with four minutes remaining. Bellevue held a 65-63 lead with just 12 seconds remaining, when reserve guard Brandon Abbott stepped to the line and buried a pair of freethrows to ice the win for the Bulldogs.

All 11 players on the Bellevue roster scored, led by sophomore forward Josh Monagle, who turned in his second double-double in as many games with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Sam Cartmell went 4 for 6 from the three point line to tally 12 points, while Michael Duty and Travis Sterling each recorded 9 points and 9 rebounds.

Wednesday's victory held a special meaning for the BCC Basketball program, as it marked the 100th victory for fifth year head coach Jeremy Eggers. With Hall of Fame coach Ernie Woods-- the only other BCC men's basketball coach to win 100 or more games-- in attendance, Eggers improved his overall record to 100-45, and became the fastest coach to compile 100 wins in BCC Men's Basketball history. Disregarding a 9-18 innagural campaign, Eggers' teams have compiled an astonishing 91-27 record in the past 3 1/2 seasons.

Next up, BCC will travel to Shoreline Community College on February 9, with tipoff slated for 7:30pm.
