BULLDOG MEN START SLOW, FALL AT PENINSULA
January 11, 2008
The BCC men’s basketball team lost their first league game of the season 59-50 on January 9, after falling behind early at Peninsula.
The Bulldogs started the game down 8-0 and were down by as much as 14 in the first half before pulling within 11 at intermission. Poor shooting (9 for 29 from the field including 2 for 13 from 3-point range) left Bellevue with only 21 first half points. In the second half the Bulldogs went on an impressive run to go up four with 10 minutes to play. BCC outscored Peninsula by 15 points during the run which was sparked by the intensity of Freshman Pete Harris coming off the bench. The run seemed to sap BCC's energy, as Peninsula responded with a run of their own, and held on to secure the win, avenging a December 16 loss to BCC.
Leading the way for Bellevue was Sophomore Josh Monagle who posted 12 points and 7 rebounds. Freshman Sam Cartmell scored 9 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Sophomores Steve Wiseley and Michael Duty both scored 8 points for Bellevue, each also adding 5 assists.
The loss drops Bellevue 10-5 and 2-1 in league play. Next up for the Bulldogs will be a January 12 rematch against Shoreline CC, who handed BCC a preseason loss on November 24. The game will tip off at 7:30pm, and will be broadcast live on the College Channel (Comcast 28 in East King County). The contest will also be available free replay via Comcast's Digital Cable On Demand Service.
