On Thursday, Dec. 22, the Bellevue College Bulldogs men’s basketball team traveled to ShoWare Center in Kent to take on the Thunderbirds of Highline Community College. The two teams fought it out in a tough, defensive-minded game. The first half score was a season-low 22 for the Bulldogs and they trailed by five at intermission. Bellevue erased their half time deficit within the first two minutes of the second half and never looked back. The Bulldogs would lead by as many as 10 points, and despite a late flourish by Highline, Bellevue was able to hold onto a 59-57 lead for the win. Bellevue was led in scoring by Keaton Hayenga with 15 points. Sophomores Rex Nelson and Jon Humphrie each added 10 points. Bellevue was able to win despite shooting a season low 31% from the field.
With the win Bellevue (9-0) remains undefeated heading into their final pre-season game on December 29 against the Washington Athletic Club. Bellevue hosts the WAC at 7:30 p.m. After that the Bulldogs begin North region play with a game in Bremerton against Olympic College on January 4, 2012, 7 p.m.
