BELLEVUE MEN SINK DOLPHINS, BUT LOSE TO PIRATES
January 11, 2011

The Bellevue College men's basketball team opened North Division play the first week in January  with two tough games against Shoreline Community College and Peninsula College. On Wednesday, Jan, 5, the Bulldogs hosted the 8th ranked Shoreline Dolphins. Behind their best defensive effort of the season, Bellevue was able to hold off the defending North Division champion Shoreline 68-53. The Bulldogs were led by Rex Nelson's 20 points and seven rebounds. Cedric Clarington scored 14 and added seven boards. Daniel Simon turned in an all-around game with 10 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.

Then, Saturday, Jan. 8, the Bulldogs hit the road to Port Angeles to take on the Peninsula College Pirates. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs left their defensive effort at home. Bellevue gave up 42 points in the first half and allowed Peninsula to shoot 70% from the field. Bellevue trailed by 14 points at half time 42-28. Peninsula's lead would reach 16 points before Bellevue made a run to close the game. Behind Brad Valentine's 10 second- half points, the Bulldogs were able to cut the Pirates' lead to five points with less than two minutes to play, but BC couldn’t get over that hump and ended the game with a 79-67 defeat. Simon led the Bulldogs with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

The Bulldogs (1-1 league, 6-5 overall season) have a bye this Wednesday before embarking on the toughest stretch of their schedule with four games in eight days, starting on Saturday, Jan. 15, with a road trip to Olympic College (0-2, 1-8) in Bremerton; tip-off at 4:00 p.m. Bellevue's next home game is Monday, Jan. 17 at 7:30 p.m. against Skagit Valley College (2-0, 4-7).
