BULLDOGS DROP SERIES WITH EVERETT CC
For just the first time this season, the BCC Baseball team was defeated in a league series, falling 1-3 to Everett in a pair of doubleheaders April 19 and 20. Bellevue got off to a good start by taking game one 1-0 behind a strong pitching performance by sophomore pitcher Brad Reid. Reid threw a complete seven inning game, 1 hit shut out. He walked three while striking out six batters including the final out of the game with the potential tying run at third base. Reid improves to 5-0 and he lowered his team leading ERA to a 0.42. Bellevue got the only run they needed in the bottom of the second inning from sophomore Kyle Decater’s RBI single to center field. Will Campbell led off the inning with a hard double down the third base line, and was brought home by Decater’s single. In game two, Bellevue’s late ninth inning rally came up just short, and the Bulldogs fell to the Trojans 4-3. Campbell led off the bottom of the ninth inning by reaching first on an error by the Trojans third basemen. Decater followed with a walk and Connor Rankin scored Campbell with a RBI single. Centerfielder, Ryan Shelton followed with a RBI single which plated Decater. With two runners on and no outs, Rankin got picked off of second base. Bellevue then followed with two strike outs to end the game. Starting pitcher Stephen Foster suffered the loss despite a strong pitching performance. He went seven innings, allowed 2 runs, 3 hits, and 9 strike outs. The loss brings his record to 2-3. In game three, Bellevue suffered the loss after Everett’s Chance Hargrove scored Alejandro Rosa with a RBI single to give the Trojans a 6-5 victory. Bellevue got on the board in the first after Kyle Laukala scored left fielder Jason Moseby on a sacrifice fly to left field. The Bulldogs added 4 runs in top of the fifth when they strung together 5 hits in the inning, but it was not enough. Starting pitcher Cody Goodfellow threw four and one third innings, getting a no decision. He gave up 5 runs, though only 1 was earned, and struck out 2 batters. Brent Miller suffered the loss after relieving Goodfellow. He threw three and one third innings, giving up one unearned run on 4 hits, while striking out 5. The loss brings Miller’s record to 1-1. In the final game of the series, Bellevue’s bats were quieted by Everett’s strong pitching performance from starting pitcher Nick Hammons. Everett won 7-1 to take the series 3 games to 1. Kyle Decater and Hunter Beaty each had double, and sophomore Jeff Hanna had two hits for the Bulldogs.
