BELLEVUE TAKES THREE OF FOUR FROM SKAGIT VALLEY
April 2, 2008

Jeff Hanna
Bellevue sophomore Jeff Hanna came up with a dramatic RBI single in the top of the ninth which proved to be the difference in Bellevue's 5-4 come-from-behind victory of Skagit Valley College on April 1st.

Sophomore Jeff Hanna laced an RBI single that took pitcher Tyrell Poggemeyers’s glove off in the top of the ninth that eventually led to the twinbill sweep for Bellevue on Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs won game one by a score of 5-2, and 5-4 in game two.  With the series win, Bellevue improves to 3-1 in Northern Region play, and 14-7 overall.

In the opening game, Bellevue got their scoring started with a Riley Tompkins double that scored Will Campbell, who reached on a leadoff error by Skagit’s Trent Henderson.  Later, a walk to Nick Johnson, another Cardinals fielding error, and an RBI single by Hanna put Bellevue out to a 3-0 lead.

Michael Robertson also added a two-run single in the top of the 4th inning to give the Bulldogs five runs, which proved to be all they needed.

Starting pitcher Brad Reid went all the way, only allowing four hits, and one earned run, while striking out two.  With the win Reid improved his record to 3-0.

In game two, Cody Goodfellow threw four scoreless innings and struck out six to pick up his team leading fourth victory of the season.  Starter Troy Burki battled through four innings, allowing four runs on only two hits.  He walked seven batters but struck out eight.  Brent Miller came in relief for Goodfellow, where he retired all three batters to earn the save, his seventh of the season.  Miller is tied for the NWAACC lead in saves with seven along with Columbia Basin’s Brad Rutherford, in what is already developing into a two-man race for NWAACC relief pitcher of the year honors.

Bellevue did all of their scoring in a late ninth inning rally.  Centerfielder, Kyle Laukala hit a three-run double off the left field wall, which scored Michael Robertson, Ryan Shelton, and Jason MosebyHunter Beaty followed with an RBI single that scored Laukala.  It was Beaty’s second clutch RBI hit off Poggemeyer, his former teammate at Oregon State University last year, after clearing the bases with a three-RBI double on Saturday.  Bellevue took their first lead of the game, which ended up being the decisive run when Hanna took the pitcher’s glove off with a line drive up the middle, allowing pinch runner Marc Schuermeyer to score.
