Bulldogs Send Off 14 Sophomores Onto Four-Year Universities
August 4, 2007
Bellevue Community College has transferred
on fourteen players, all receiving scholarships and playing baseball at the four-year level. Ten of those are to NCAA Division I universities, one to a top Division III program, while the other three received large scholarships to top NAIA baseball programs.
Academic and athletic excellence provided captains Shane Hoey and Kyle Torgerson to receive division I opportunities. Hoey will play infield at the University of Hawaii (early commit last fall) while Torgerson will catch at Northeastern University, located in the heart of Boston, MA. Pitcher Brad Reid will pitch for the two-time defending NCAA national champion Oregon State Beavers next spring. North Region MVP Jesse Wight will play at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas. Other signees include Brian Gana (Campbell University), TJ Brown and Jesse Moon (University of Hawaii at Hilo), Matt Hudson and Justin Lucero (New Mexico State University), Chris LaLonde (Centenary College of Louisiana). After recovering from a second surgery this spring, pitcher Brian Ouellette will transfer to Linfield College this fall. Infielder Kyle Montgomery will play at Jamestown College next year while Mike Lee will pitch at Oklahoma City University. Lefty pitcher Blaine Hardy will pitch at Lewis-Clark State College. "Our pride and happiness is equal for all of them. Reid enters a program that is #1 in the nation now, while LaLonde and Gana are going into division I programs where they might be stars in the entire region. We might also see Lee and Hardy pitch against each other a year from now in the NAIA World Series and in pro ball shortly thereafter. We hope all of these guys enjoy their last years of college baseball and bring their winning tradition from Bellevue with them to their respective programs," says Head Coach Mark Yoshino.
