Directions for Short Papers

 

 

 

Due Date

 

Papers are due on dates listed on the assignment sheet. They may be turned in during class or given to a secretary in R230 before 2:30 on the date due. Late papers are penalized a grade. Late papers are only accepted on the B due date. Any student failing to turn the paper in by the B due date will not be eligible for a grade in the class. Late papers must be written on poems not discussed in class.

 

 

Format

 

Papers are written in essay format and are approximately 2 to 3 pages in length. Each paper includes:

 

            1.         A statement of the poem’s overall message or purpose.

 

            2.         A clear definition of the technique(s) chosen.

 

            3.         A clarification of how the use of the technique relates to the overall message or purpose of the poem.

 

 

Grades

 

Papers are graded on a A-F scale with A being the highest grade. Papers are graded on clarity, thoroughness, and correctness.
