Worksheet # 4
Answer the following questions using two required textbooks
and statistics in the library. Make
sure to cite sources.
- Using
the FBI’s website as a reference (http://www.fbi.gov/hq/cid/civilrights/hate.htm),
define hate crimes in your own words.
- Using
“authoritative” reference materials, websites or databases, find current
statistics of hate crimes in the United
States.
Attach a one-two page print out with your assignment. (If the pages
are more than 2 pages, attach only the first two pages. In other words, I do not want the whole
report. Please do not waste
paper. All I want to know is where
you got the information. As always,
I will be looking for your citation.)
- Based
on Asian American Dreams and the news you read, persistent hate
crimes still continue. Using
databases you already know, find an article about hate crimes in
Washington Sate written within the last three years. Who are the targets of the hate crimes in
your article, and explain how the incidence parallels other historical
incidences toward minorities.
(Attach the article with your assignment.)
- Using
EBSCOhost, find the peer-reviewed article titled, “Teaching Beyond the
Deficit Model: Gays and Lesbian Among African Americans, Latinos, and
Asian Americans.” Identify and
summarize the “five commonalities” affecting identity development from the
article. What are the some of the
similarities among the minority groups?
What is something unique about each group?
- According
to Double Victory (Chapter 8), who were some of the first soldiers’
who liberated Jewish prisoners from the concentration camp in Dachau? Have you heard this before? In your opinion, why have such stories
not been told in mainstream American history books? Do you know of similar accounts in U.S.
history?
