Life with Dogs: The Canine Connection

American Studies 286 (Popular Culture) or English 111 (Introduction
to Literature)
For 15,000 years, dogs have been our closest companions and are quite possibly the first domesticated animal. Explore many
facets of our life with canis familiaris by reading nonfiction works examining dogs, as well as classic dog stories and write
papers exploring these complex themes. Integrates study of literature or English Composition with exploration of ideas and
experiences in American popular culture.

Crossing Borders in the Americas: Language, Culture & Identity
10 credits: Sociology 101 (Intro to Sociology) or 201 (Social
Problems) or 205 (Cultural Studies) and American Studies
200 (Cultural Pluralism)
Explore the cross-cultural influences of the United States and two regions of the
Spanish-speaking world that hold the most weight in U.S. society Mexico and the Caribbean.
Through film, interviews, and essays, students explore similarities and differences,
investigate social, political and cultural norms, and question stereotypes with the goal
of understanding the transnational relations among these regions.
