How to calculate gradepoints

calculating semester credits
  1. Compute your gradepoints from the amount of credits and your grades:

Multiply the numerical grade by the number of credits.
    Example:

    Grade x Credits = Gradepoints
    4.0 (A) x 5 cr = 20

  2. Calculate Grade Point Average (GPA) from the amount of credits and gradepoints:
    1. Add gradepoints and credits.
      Example:

        Grade x Credits = Gradepoints
      Quarter 1 4.0 (A) x 5 cr = 20
      Quarter 2 3.3 (B+)
      x 3 cr = 9.9
      Quarter 3 2.0 (C)

      x 5 cr = 10.0
      Totals     13 cr = 39.9

    2. Divide the total of gradepoints by the total of credits.
      Example:

      Gradepoints ÷
      Credits = GPA
      39.9 ÷ 13 cr = 3.07

How to calculate GPA with semester credits transferred from another institution.

Rule: One semester credit is equivalent to 1.5 quarter credits.
  1. Translate semester credits into quarter credits.
    Example:

      Grade Semester
    Credits
    x 1.5 = Quarter
    Credits
    x Grade = Gradepoints
    Class 1 4.0 (A)
    3 x 1.5 = 4.5 x 4.0 = 18.0
    Class 2 3.3 (B+)
    2 x 1.5 = 3.0 x 3.3 = 9.9
    Class 3 2.0 (C)
    3 x 1.5 = 4.5 x 2.0 = 9.0
    Totals           12.0
          36.9

  2. Figure GPA as in (2) above
    Example:

    Gradepoints
    ÷ Quarter Credits = GPA
    36.9
    ÷ 12.0 = 3.08
