Fundamentals of Music is designed to give students an opportunity to explore and gain some practice reading and writing the musical language. The goal of the class is to provide students with a basic and practical understanding of the fundamental symbols and theories behind music. Through lectures and in-class practice students will be exposed to the language and concepts of music. Outside of class students will be expected to complete daily exercises and spend some time weekly in the Piano/Computer Lab to develop reading and keyboard skills. It will be important for students to keep up with their assignments and attend class daily as most of the materials are sequential in nature and difficult to understand on an intermittent basis.
Students will be evaluated on:
Attendance: BCC lists 5 absences as a maximum before penalty
Worksheet completion(worksheets from the book will be
assigned each week. From these one to two will be selected for evaluation).
Piano and music sight reading tests. Play scales & chords
Weekly thursday music quizzes, and a comprehensive Final Wednesday March 23rd , 11:30-1:20
