Pre-requisites: MU 150 or permission of the instructor.

 

General Description:  MU 151 will primarily be a MIDI lab time for students to work on individual projects, with assistance as needed from the instructor.  Some lecture demonstrations will be given from time to time relating to the use of Peak and Digital Performer to help focus the class.  Enrollment in the class entitles the student to access the MIDI lab as available during posted hours (approximately 50 hours per week will be available, to be announced)

Assignments:  3 to 4 assignments will be given during the quarter to be completed in class and during unsupervised lab time. A Final project of the students own choosing is due on the Monday of the last full week of class.

 

Grading:  Letter grades will be assigned based on completion of assignments, 75% and Final Project 25%

 

Notes: Students are responsible for assignments and material assigned during their absence.   Please check with classmates or the instructor after any absence.  Assignments and projects completed in class may be shared with the class for instructional purposes.   Assignment due dates and scheduled class events will be posted on the class website accessible at mybcc.net.  check this site for announcements and downloadable documents

 


Outcomes

 

To develop a familiarity with Digital Performer and the features it shares with all digital audio sequencers.

To develop a familiarity with Peak and the features it shares with all two- track digital editors.

To be able to create original MIDI sequences, mix them down, and prepare for burning to CD

To import audio from an audio CD, trim it and loop it

To perform basic editing operations on digital audio, such as cut, paste, trim

To chain together chunks of MIDI data to make larger sequences

To learn the techniques of making a MIDI version of a cover song
