Three ring binder, Music (To be assigned) Bound music manuscript paper, No. 2 pencils (no pens), Eraser. You must bring your music and pencils everyday
Grades will be based on the following:
60% - Attendance
* Attendance is a critical part of this course. Attendance grading will be the following:
1 – 3 absences = A
4 – 5 absences = B
6 absences = C
7 absences = D
8 + absences = F
* Attendance of performances is mandatory!
Attendance includes
rehearsals, sectionals and performances.
A missed performance will
result in an automatic reduction in letter grade.
15% - Assignments
10% - Midterm Examination (Note Checks)
15% - Final Examination (Quarterly Performance)
Music 105/205 will consist primarily of rehearsals, sectionals, performances, and outside practice. Student contribution and attitude toward these main aspects of the course will determine the quality and success of the ensemble, and therefore the expectations are very high.
Music 105 Learning Outcomes
Students will understand the role
the arts play in society and the ways in which the arts empower people to
create performances that manifest their beliefs, knowledge, social
relationships, values and skills.
Course Outcomes
After taking music 105/205 – Vocal Jazz Choir - Students will be able
to:
• Demonstrate
growth in the development of their vocal skills
• Demonstrate
the ability to identify, follow, read and/or perform a variety of rhythmic and melodic passages as they are used in the creation of the music being performed
• Demonstrate
the use of a variety of practice tools and methods as well as appropriate rehearsal and performance behavior to produce
productive rehearsals and quality performances.
• Demonstrate
the ability to identify and perform in a variety of styles as appropriate to the historical and cultural context of the
music.
• Demonstrate
the ability to perform a variety of musical styles
• Demonstrate
the ability to recite, sing and translate a basic level of a variety of languages found in the music that is
performed
• Demonstrate
the ability to recognize and function in a variety of small and large group settings.
• Demonstrate
organization, and practice skills, that will provide the student with the tools to choose to keep music in their future lives
• Describe
personal and motivational awareness of music’s potential role in a students future
• Demonstrate
a connection to and expression of the message, meaning or intent of the music they are performing.
