Services :
“Students with disabilities who have

Audio
cassette tapes and/or CDs:
Audio
CDs are used in conjunction with your textbook and workbook. The Media Services will duplicate all the
required CDs by the first week of the quarter.
The CDs are to be
distributed during the first week of the quarter.
For learning spoken Chinese,
audio materials are extremely important.
It is best to spend one hour or more each day listening and practicing speaking.
Please refer to the
Arts and Humanities “Student Procedures and Expectations”, as they apply to
this Chinese class as well. You can
locate this on the BCC web site at:

Below you’ll see my amendments
to the Arts and Humanities policies.
GRADING AND
EXAMINATIONS
ATTENDANCE 15%
Two
points will be earned from each attended class.
When you miss a class, it will be your own responsibility to find out
what you have missed from your classmates. Absences may be excused when you inform the instructor in advance
and you still get one point.
CLASS WORK PREPARATION
AND CLASSROOM PARTICIPATION 10%
It
is important to practice speaking in class.
Be prepared to participate in classroom conversations and activities.
Oral mistakes will not affect your grades. Grading will be based on preparation
and participation.
HOMEWORK 20%
Homework
will be assigned for every lesson. Grading will be based on effort and correction
rather than on first-time correctness.
In order to receive full points, homework needs to be turned in on time
and to be fully corrected afterwards, but no later than the next homework due
date. If homework is received after the due day of the next homework, 10 points
will be deducted unless you make arrangement with the instructor in advance.
TESTS AND QUIZZES 30%
Tests
will be given according to the calendar in this syllabus. Quizzes will be given periodically with or
without advance notice. If you miss a test
or a quiz, you will get a
chance to make it up. Test
corrections are required and the scores will be adjusted accordingly. The worst test score will get dropped at
the end of the quarter.
ORAL PRESENTATION 5%
There
will be one individual or group oral presentation in the 11th week of the
quarter. The guidelines will be given out
before the 11th week.
FINAL EXAM 20%
The
final exam will be comprehensive of the whole quarter’s work. It may consist of listening, reading, and writing.
If you can not take the final, you must make arrangement with the instructor in
advance, otherwise, you will receive F as your grade for the quarter.
