The course goal and
objectives.
The course goal is to continue providing a solid foundation in listening, speaking, reading and writing pre-intermediate level Japanese. Some aspects of Japanese socio-cultural topics will also be discussed. Students who successfully complete this class will be able to:
1. Talk about giving and receiving forms
2. Make a polite request and a casual request
3. Wish someone good luck
4. Apologize for something you did or failed to do
5. Report or convey information you obtained by hearing or reading
6. Informally quote what you have heard or read
7. Describe what one does not need to do
8. Describe a possible or probable condition
9. Talk about a resemblance
10. Express what one has finished doing or ended up doing
11. Describe a cause-effect relationship between events
12. Describe two actions performed simultaneously
13. Express with regret what one should have done
14. Describe the actions of a person higher up in the social hierarchy
15. Understand courteous commands and advice
16. Express gratitude
17. Express a speaker’s strong expectation of belief based on reliable information
18. Use 63 new kanji characters in addition to previously introduced kanji characters

Attendance:
1. Rolls are called at the beginning of the class. Students are expected to attend class every Monday and Wednesday.
2. If student come late or late leave early, it will penalize their class participation points.
3. When you have to be absent, it is your responsibility to find out what you missed from your classmates or at My BC Class Sites.

Lesson tests:
We will have three Lesson Tests at the end of Lesson 16, 17 and 18.
The content of the Lesson 19 will be the included in the Final Exam.
No make-up test and
quiz:
If your circumst5ance as a death in the family or serious illness you must make up the missing work within a week. For missing quiz and test by arrangement with the instructor only.
Final Exam:
The final exam is comprehensive, covering material from Lesson 16 through 19.
Day of the Final Exam: It is the same as the usual class time. However please check your schedule on My BC.
You can not have make-up final test after official final day.
Homework:
1. Workbook II (Lesson 16-19 include kanji practice)
2. Due Day: Before each Lesson test, you must turn in your workbook to your instructor. If your instructor corrects your work, you have to check your mistakes.
3. Homework’s point:
Completed and submitted on time; full point
Not completed and submitted on time; half point
One Lesson completed and submitted on time; 1/4 point
