Welcome
to Spanish class. This quarter you will
be learning to listen, speak, read, and write in Spanish. At the end of this course, if you complete
your assignments and participate in class, you should expect

to carry on more complex conversations about pastimes,
hobbies, foods, and habits

to give instructions and commands
·
to narrate and describe events in the past and the future
·
to make comparisons
·
to understand Hispanic cultures and geography more deeply

to read, write, understand and
speak even more Spanish than ever.

Scale based on percentage
A 100-93, A- 92-90, B+ 89-87, B 86-83, B-
82-80, C+ 79-77, C 76-73, C- 72-70, D+ 69-67, D 66-60, F 59
or below.

Participation 15% |
·
Attendance and active participation in class are essential to your
success. You will receive points for
each day you attend. ·
You will engage in a lot of group and pair work for which
you must prepare, and we will all try to speak Spanish as much as possible
during class. ·
If you miss 20% or more of the class days
(that’s 10 days), you may fail the class.
At the very least, your final grade for the course will be lowered
by one letter grade. ·
If you arrive
tardy 20% of the time, that’s a total of 10 tardies, your final
grade will be lowered by one third of a letter. (A grade of B becomes a B-) ·
In case of illness or emergency, please inform me --in
advance of the class you will miss-- by email, or through another
student. If you miss class, you are responsible for obtaining any
missed information from a classmate. |

Classwork 15%
|

This grade is based on completed worksheets, Role Plays,
and writing assignments. ·
You must be in class to turn in the worksheets, perform
the Role Plays and complete the writing assignments. ·
On occasion, and at my discretion, the Role Play
assignments and writing assignments may be made up if you must be absent on a
Role Play day, and you have informed me of your
absence in advance. |

Homework 15%

This grade is based on completed Workbook and Lab Manual
assignments. ·

If you turn
in homework the day after it is due, you will receive half credit for the
assignment. I will not accept
homework more than one day late. |

Tests 9-12
40% Final Exam

There are two short tests that you will have 30 minutes to
complete for each chapter and one comprehensive final exam for a total of
ten. ·
Exams can, on occasion, be taken in advance, but they cannot be made up after an
absence. ·
You may drop two of your lowest test scores not including the final exam. |
Classroom
Standards:
Syllabus
and Calendar Modification:
Occasionally, I may need to change the syllabus or
calendar. Such changes could include,
but are not limited to, the number and dates of tests, homework assignments,
etc. I will announce changes in
class. Students who are absent when
changes are announced are responsible for obtaining this information.
Extra
Credit:
Worth up to 20 points total
and applied to your homework grade, it involves watching a movie in Spanish or
listening to a radio program and answering some questions in writing. All extra credit assignments are due on the last
day of classes BEFORE the start of final exams – NOT on the day of the final
exam.
Tutoring:
Visit www.bcc.ctc.edu/tutoring or see the
tutor coordinator in C 162 to sign up for individual tutoring or show up at
group tutoring sessions that begin usually during the second week of
classes. Both tutoring options are free.
Academic
Dishonesty: Stealing, cheating
and plagiarizing will not be tolerated.
A student caught engaging in such activity will receive 0 points for the
assignment in question and will be reported, without exception, to the Dean of
Student Services.
BCC
Disability Statement:
Students with disabilities
who have accommodation needs are required to meet with the Director of
Disability Support Services, B 132 (phone 425-564-2498), to establish their
eligibility for accommodation. In
addition, students who require accommodation in classes must review those
requirements with each instructor during the first week of the quarter.
Drop
Procedure:
Don’t give up too soon, but if you decide to get out, you must withdraw officially
with the Registration Office by the date set by the college. If you simply stop coming, you will receive
an F for the class which will really
mess up your GPA.

Make friends and
study partners with your classmates and exchange phone numbers and email
addresses.
2.
Come see me!! I instruct, tutor, and answer all
questions. Don’t hesitate to visit me.
3.
Never underestimate the power of good
Mexican food.
On-Campus Sites to use the
technology
You have free access to computer resources on campus in two
places. The CD programs are already
installed on designated computers in these two places, but you must bring
your CD’s with you to run the programs.
