Participation 15% |
· Attendance and active participation in class are essential to your success. You will receive points for each day you attend. · You will engage in a lot of group and pair work for which you must prepare, and we will all try to speak Spanish as much as possible during class. · If you miss 20% or more of the class days (that’s 10 days), you may fail the class. At the very least, your final grade for the course will be lowered by one letter grade. · In case of illness or emergency, please inform me --in advance of the class you will miss-- by email, or through another student. If you miss class, you are responsible for obtaining any missed information from a classmate.
|
|
Classwork 10%
|
· This grade is based on completed worksheets, Role Plays, and writing assignments. · You must be in class to do the writing assignments. · On occasion, and at my discretion, the Role Play assignments may be made up if you must be absent on a Role Play day, and you have informed me of your absence in advance.
|
|
Homework 20%
|
· This grade is based on completed Workbook and Lab Manual assignments. · I will accept homework until 5 pm on the day it is due in case you miss class. You may leave homework for me in R 230, or send it with a classmate. · If you turn in homework the day after it is due, you will receive half credit for the assignment. I will not accept homework more than one day late.
|
|
Tests Preliminary – 4 40% Final Exam and Orals 15% |
· There are two short tests that you will have 30 minutes to complete for each chapter and one comprehensive final exam for a total of ten. · Exams can, on occasion, be taken in advance, but they cannot be made up after an absence. · You may drop two of your lowest test scores not including the final exam.

Classroom Standards:
Syllabus and Calendar Modification:
Occasionally, I may need to change the syllabus or calendar. Such changes could include, but are not limited to, the number and dates of tests, homework assignments, etc. I will announce changes in class. Students who are absent when changes are announced are responsible for obtaining this information.
Extra Credit:
Worth up to 20 points total and applied to your homework grade, it involves watching a movie in Spanish or listening to a radio program and answering some questions in writing. All extra credit assignments are due on the last day of classes BEFORE the start of final exams – NOT on the day of the final exam.
Tutoring:
Visit www.bcc.ctc.edu/tutoring or see the tutor coordinator in C 162 to sign up for individual tutoring or show up at group tutoring sessions that begin usually during the second week of classes. Both tutoring options are free.
Academic Dishonesty: Stealing, cheating and plagiarizing will not be tolerated. A student caught engaging in such activity will receive 0 points for the assignment in question and will be reported, without exception, to the Dean of Student Services.
BCC Disability Statement:
Students with disabilities who have accommodation needs are required to meet with the Director of Disability Support Services, B 132 (phone 425-564-2498), to establish their eligibility for accommodation. In addition, students who require accommodation in classes must review those requirements with each instructor during the first week of the quarter.
Drop Procedure:
Don’t give up too soon, but if you decide to get out, you must withdraw officially with the Registration Office by the date set by the college. If you simply stop coming, you will receive an F for the class which will really mess up your GPA.
Tips:
1. Make friends and study partners with your classmates and exchange phone numbers and email addresses.
2. Come see me!! I instruct, tutor, and answer all questions. Don’t hesitate to visit me.
3. Never underestimate the power of good Mexican food.
You have free access to computer resources on campus in two places. The CD programs are already installed on designated computers in these two places, but you must bring your CD’s with you to run the programs.
1. The Open Lab – N 250 425-373-3960 http://ac.bcc.ctc.edu
Ask the lab monitors on which computers the Imagenes programs can be found. Headphones may be checked out with a driver’s license or student ID.
2. Library Media Center – D 124 425-564-2253 http://ir.bcc.ctc.edu/library
The Spanish-language programs are installed on the three computers just inside the entrance. They also have Spanish-language films and Destinos, a 52 episode mystery story, in the Media Center.
¡ Bienvenidos a clase y muy buena suerte !
