COURSE OUTCOMES:

Upon completion of the course the student will be able to:

  • Compare the characteristics, advantages, and disadvantages of natural and artificial light sources.
  • State the types of artificial light sources.
  • State how size and watts are expressed in the various types of artificial light sources.
  • State the efficacies of the various types of artificial sources.
  • State the life expectancy of the various types of artificial sources.
  • Define and understand Color Rendering Index, and the Kelvin ratings of the various types of artificial sources.

After successful completion of Principles of Lighting student work will:

  • Demonstrate understanding of lighting design fundamentals, for example, by successfully completing test questions, and lighting exercises.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the selection and application of the various lighting luminaires for a specific design goal, for example, completing specifications for a small lighting plan.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the selection and application of the various controls for a specific lighting design goal, for example, by successfully answering test questions and/or drawing RCP application exercises.
  • Demonstrate the ability to create a lighting design, by drafting a lighting or reflected ceiling plan to communicate the lighting design intent as well as code regulations and standards.
