ART 110   2-D DESIGN                                                                     MATERIALS

 

BASIC ESSENTIALS

-tackle box for supplies

-pencils, 2H and HB  (or a selection of soft leads)

-one graphite stick

-Staedler plastic eraser

-kneaded gum eraser

-rubber cement; Elmer’s small can with brush and rubber cement eraser

(this can be substituted with YES paste if you prefer)

-roll of drafted tape, ½ inch is okay

-utility knife with blades or exacto knife (or both)

-18” or 24” metal ruler with cork backing

-sharp quality scissors

-Sharpie fine-point bllack pen (waterproof), and also a Pilot pen, black

-Alvin Cutting Mat, green type 12 x 18 inch

-paper portfolio is recommend

 

PAINT AND RELATED ITEMS

Winsor & Newton Gouache: get Permanent White 37ml size and also Ivory Black 37ml

Get a variety of inexpensive mixed sable brushes: recommended sizes are WN sceptre ½” flat and

#6 Kolinsky watercolor brush.

You will also need plastic mixing pans, small watercolor dishes, plastic container.

 

PAPER

-Bristol paper pad (14” x 17”, smooth surface)

-bond paper pad (9” x 12”)

-couple sheets of tracing paper (14” x 17”)

-some carbon or traceable paper

-Crescent illustration board, cold press, medium weight or double ply, white 22” x 30”

-Canson paper:  1 sheet each white and medium gray, 2 sheets black

 

OPTIONAL ITEMS  (HANDY TO HAVE)

-T-square (wood with plexi-edges)

-Frendh curve, circle template, acrylic triangles, compass

-save magazines and other sources for pictures

REQUIRED TEXT:  DESIGN BASICS, Laurer, Harcourt Brage College, 5th edition
