We may cover additional topics based on the interests of the class. Grammar and pronunciation information will be introduced when needed.
Being ready to participate and work in groups is important to your success. You will receive feedback from both your peers and me.
This is a PASS/FAIL course. This means you will NOT receive a LETTER or NUMBER grade (i.e. – A,B,C,D,F or 4.0, 3.3, 2.0, etc.). There will be no midterm or final exam. However, there will be homework, presentations, and informal group projects. At the end of the quarter, you will receive a certificate of successful completion if you attend at least 75% of classes.
This means that if you miss more than 5 classes you will not receive a certificate.
Your completed work will be calculated as follows:

Homework & Classwork 20%
Quizzes 10%
Participation 10%
Regular attendance is very important in this class. We will cover a lot of information every day, and it is important that you are in class and on time.
Tardiness, or being late, is disruptive, so please try to arrive on time. If you are 5 minutes late or more, you will be considered tardy. Three tardies = one absence. If you arrive more than 20 minutes late, you will be marked absent. If you are absent 5 or more times, you will not pass the class.
PLEASE NOTE: If you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out from another student what was covered in class on the day you were absent and to make copies of any material that was handed out in class on the day you were absent. The instructor will not be responsible for helping you to catch up.
