Course Objectives: This course is designed to help you speak and understand English with greater success. At the end of this course you will be able to:

Course Content: Each week you will do one chapter in your book  which includes vocabulary exercises, listening assignments, and small group discussions. At the end of each chapter, you will give a short talk based on the same topic that will be used to assess your speaking ability. The listening activities in your book will be used to assess your listening comprehension. Your homework each week will be to conduct a survey on the topic of the week and make a short oral summary of the answers each Monday. At the end of the quarter, you will give an oral presentation as part of your final exam. You will also have a listening test as a part of your final exam.

Evaluation: Your final grade will be based on an average of your weekly in-class listening and speaking grades, your homework grades, and your final project.

94-100= A     93-84= B     83-75= C     74-65= D      65-0= F

(D and F grades mean that you will have to repeat this class)

Attendance: Attendance is very important in this course because you can not make up any of your class work if you are absent. If you miss a listening test, a skit or an oral summary, you will receive a zero which will lower your grade considerably. Missing more than 3 classes may mean that you will have to repeat this level. If you miss the final exam, your grade will be lowered by one letter. For example, a "C" grade will become a "D".
