Reading Journal -- 1984

Reading is an active process that requires reflection and analysis.  Reading journals allow the reader to respond to what they read.  To complete this task well, you need to show that you are thinking critically and deeply about the topic.  You can use the following prompts to help you write reading journal entries.  You will not be graded on your grammar or spelling.  This is an exercise in thinking.

What message is the author giving the reader?

What do you think made the author want to write this book?

What is the tone of the book?

How are you similar to or different from a character?

Have you had an experience that is similar to an experience of one or more characters?

What did you think of when you read the book?

How did the book make you feel?  Why do you think you felt that way?

What new insights have you gained from the book?

What information would you like to share with others?
