This class is designed for foreign students who little ability in spoken English, and who wish to learn the basics of the English conversation and grammar.
LEVEL ONE: This course is geared toward beginning students, and we will use the textbook UNDERSTANDING AND USING ENGLISH GRAMMAR third edition by B.S.AZAR. The text is available in the BCC Bookstore. In level one we expect to cover such topics as:
* Ordering in a restaurant
* Shopping and Returning items
* Asking basic Biographical questions
* Describing your Family and Friends
* Discussing Future Plans
* Talking about Past Events
* Describing People, Places, and objects
* Describing how you do something
* Using Natural Idioms and Conversation Fillers
NOTES:
Homework will be given every lesson. The purpose of homework is practice; it is a chance for you to experiment with and attempt to use the structures we study. Homework is not supposed to be perfect, but it is necessary!
Participation is important. You may be asked to work with partners or in groups. (This also helps your conversation skills). Asking questions is also very important because it helps your classmates and makes the class more interesting. REMEMBER.....There is no such thing as a stupid question!!!
Certificates will be given out at the end of the quarter to students who have attended 75% of the class sessions.
