About Class

·         You will need a notebook, paper, pens, and pencils.  Bring them to each class.

·         Come to class on time.

·         Do all homework and participate in class (work in groups/pairs, ask questions).

·         Be polite and respect your classmates.  We learn from each other.  We can help each other.  We must treat one another with respect, even when we have different ideas.  We will use professional student behavior that does not disturb others.

Special Event

            Every Friday, starting next week (Jan. 14), our class will be going to the Writing Lab in Building A.  We have the room to ourselves!  This is an excellent and meticulous way to greatly improve your writing skills.  Our lab session begins at 1:30 and you must be at the student door (A 254) on time.  Exception: January 28th is taken by another class.  We will begin again on the following Friday, February 11th.

Portfolio

Each student will keep a portfolio, or folder.  The portfolio will have:

1)  all attendance sheets from every quarter

2)  short-term goals progress sheet

3)  Feedback sheet (it has your writing score from every quarter)

4)  ARM sheet (this tells your CASAS scores for each quarter)

5)  all tests and quizzes from every quarter you attend level 3

                        6)  one example of your writing from each quarter;

Students in ESL classes at Bellevue Community College should make progress in their level.  If there is no progress, students may not continue in the program.  The teacher looks at your classroom work, tests, and attendance to decide your progress.  The teacher will tell you at the end of the quarter that you need to improve.  If you don’t improve, you might not be able to register for future classes.

Students with disabilities must progress like other students.  You should tell the teacher about your disability, special illness, or your need for special arrangements in class.

If you want to know about Disability Support Services (DSS), call 566-2498 or go to the DSS office in room C220.
