Welcome to the Basic Skills Lab Speaking and Listening Practice Class!!!
Goals of this class: To give you extra practice in listening and in speaking by using computer programs for 50 minutes and participating in small group discussion and conversation games for 50 minutes.
Attendance: If you need to miss lab class, please leave a message for Sue on her voicemail or on email. See the phone number and email address above. This class is only once a week and there are students on a waiting list. If you miss class and don’t call, you will be dropped from lab and a new student will take your place. We expect you to come every week.
Computer Programs:

Rosetta Stone |
Practice listening to sentences about many topics. You can repeat and record your voice to compare to the native speaker. Good exercises to listen and choose pictures or sentences that describe what you hear. |

English Discoveries |
Practice listening to conversations, answering machine messages, radio and tv scenes. You can record your voice to practice the conversations. Little tests check your understanding. |

Ellis |
Practice specific English sounds. (r, sh, long and short vowels). Pictures show you how to move your tongue and mouth. Also speaking practice with questions or statements in situations like complaining, introducing people, making invitations. You can record your voice and compare to a native speaker. |
Listening Contours Workbook and Cassette Tape – Excellent listening practice.
You listen to a cassette tape and fill out a workbook as you listen.
High English level talks about many topics. You listen and are guided through vocabulary and main idea exercises before the talk. Then you listen and answer questions about the talk.
Lab Folders- There is a place in your lab folder to write what you have studied and learned each week. Please fill this out when you finish working on the computer.
