Description
Listening to Music is a class designed to
enhance and enliven an individuals awareness of music. As such, it will provide students with the
listening skills necessary to recognize and enjoy a variety of musical styles,
stemming from the very beginning of Western music through the twentieth century
and beyond, ending with a look at nonwestern, world-oriented music. Studies will include rhythm, melodic shape
and motion, harmony, instruments and musical form and function. Students will attend a minimum of two,
teacher-approved concerts over the course of the quarter. All readings should
be done before daily discussions. There will be three multiple-choice tests,
two concert essays, and a final group project.
