Bachelor of Applied Arts Program

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible to apply to the BAA degree in Interior Design?
Anyone is eligible who has completed at least 90 credits in an interior design-related educational program that includes courses in social science, quantitative or symbolic reasoning, written communication, humanities and natural science.

What if I received an interior design associate’s degree from another college?
Bellevue College accepts interior design-related associate’s degrees from any accredited college. Depending on the graduation requirements of your particular program, you may need to take some additional courses to complete your degree. Your advisor will help you determine your educational plan.

Why do you require a portfolio for admission?
The portfolio helps the evaluation committee determine if you are ready for baccalaureate-level courses.

Can I take courses without being admitted to the BAA program?
Yes, students who have not been formally admitted to the program may register for some 300-level courses with instructor approval and on a space available basis. Only admitted students may register for 400-level courses. To find out if you qualify to take a course and receive an entry code, contact the course instructor.

How long will it take me to finish?
A minimum of 191 credits are required for graduation, which includes at least 90 credits earned through an associate’s degree. The length of time to completion will depend on how many credits are transferred into the program and whether you attend full-time. Work with an interior design advisor to help plan your individualized path. Students who graduated from BC’s 3-year Interior Design associate degree program may be able to complete the BAA in less than two years of full-time study.

Can I skip taking classes for a quarter if I want?
Every BAA student is required to complete a minimum of one class per quarter, not including summer quarter, to maintain your status in the program. If an exceptional circumstance prohibits you from meeting this obligation, you must submit a written request to the program chair to prevent you from losing your status as a matriculated student.

If I’m admitted to the program, must I start taking courses right away?
Yes, you must begin taking courses in the quarter for which you were accepted. If an extraordinary circumstance requires you to delay your educational plans, please contact the program chair immediately so that you don’t lose your place as a matriculated student.

Is there a required sequence for courses that I should take?
Some courses have prerequisites that require you to take them in sequence. To determine which courses and course sequence required to achieve your graduation requirements, consult the annual catalog or meet with an Interior Design Program advisor.

What if I have already completed some of the courses in the BAA program at Bellevue College or at another institution?
Each student educational experience is unique. If you have already completed some courses, your BAA advisor will be able to determine whether they apply to the degree requirements.

Can I reapply if I am not accepted into the BAA program?
Yes, you may reapply to the program as many times as you like. Your application fee and recommendation forms are good for twelve months from your first application submission.

Is the BAA program accredited?
The Bachelor of Applied Arts in Interior Design is accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA). http://www.accredit-id.org/
