Transfer Credits and Registration Appointments:

Registration appointments for online enrollment are assigned based on the number of credits on your BC transcript. Transfer students can benefit from having credits applied to the BC transcript to give them a better chance of enrolling in the high-demand classes in our program. You must wait until you are enrolled in your first class to do this, and the benefits will begin for the following quarter’s registration.

New transfer students who have earned credits from an accredited institution and are planning to pursue a degree at BC are encouraged to bring unofficial copies of their college transcripts to the Student Service Center by the third week of their first quarter of attendance.

A maximum of 60 transfer credits will be used to reflect cumulative credits for registration appointments in future quarters. This use does not mean that the transfer credits will satisfy degree and certificate requirements at BC.

Admissions

Bellevue College has an open-door policy, and all interested students are eligible and invited to apply. There is no pre-screening or portfolio review required for admission to the Associate of Arts in Interior Design program, and new students need only to comply with Bellevue College’s basic eligibility requirements.

Once students have enrolled and begun taking classes in the program, they can begin planning their curriculum with a program advisor, tailoring their education plans to fit their background and future goals. The foundation curriculum of the Associate of Arts in the Interior Design program is designed to prepare you for admission into the Bachelor of Applied Arts in Interior Design at BC. The BAA program conducts a selective admission process, requiring a review of your academic transcripts, references, statement of intent, and portfolio of creative work.

Program Advising

Students are not assigned to an advisor, and may elect to discuss their advising needs with any of the teaching faculty. But the Program Advisor is your first contact for advising questions.
Program Advisors are faculty members in the Interior Design program, and this responsibility is rotated among all of our full-time instructors so that everyone is familiar with student advising issues. This practice provides you with well-informed advisors, and regular access to a variety of instructors with unique areas of professional expertise. Given the complexity of our curriculum, we think you will appreciate talking with someone who is knowledgeable about our program and able to address your particular advising needs.

Our Program Advisor is Michael Culpepper. Advising questions should be directed to indes.advisor@bellevuecollege.edu

Our Advising Partners

Interior Design is housed in the Arts & Humanities division at BC. Prospective and current students can also schedule an advising session with Deanne Eschbach, the division advisor, by calling either 425-564-2341or 564-2212.

If you are a new student at BC, the Advising Center can provide general advising to help you get started. Call them at 425-564-2212 to make an appointment. Their website is: http://bellevuecollege.edu/advising/.

Advising Orientations

Please plan on attending one of our Advising Orientation sessions. We think that you will find this session very useful and informative. Many of your questions – even the complicated ones – will be answered at this session. We’ll tell you about the Interior Design curriculum, the interior design field in general, and how to get started in the Interior Design program.

Advising orientations are normally held once a week in room L113 of the main BC campus during the regular school year. No appointment is necessary, but we do strongly encourage anyone interested in finding out more about our program to attend one of these group advising sessions before contacting us about individual advising. You'll have a chance to meet one of our full-time faculty members, discuss career and educational options, and find out what makes our program so special.
After the orientation, you’ll be able to talk with the Program Advisor and arrange a meeting.
We ask that you please attend one of these orientation workshops before scheduling an individual advising appointment.

This benefits you because it allows our Program Advisor to focus more attention on your individual advising needs when you meet for one-on-one counseling. The information covered in the group advising orientations allow us to make effective use of your time and ours, scheduling more frequent, and shorter, advising appointments. What you learn in the advising orientation allows us to focus our time on your individual advising situation.

For dates and times of upcoming advising orientation sessions, and for general information about the Interior Design program, please call the Arts & Humanities Division office at (425) 564-2341. The staff can also put you in touch with our curriculum advisor and schedule advising appointments.

Advising Pathways

Determine your need for an immediate appointment with a Program Advisor by reviewing the following advising pathways. Prospective students may not require an individual advising session immediately after the advising orientation. Because the orientation will provide you with instructions on applying to BC and recommendations for your first quarter of study in the program, only certain students will require an immediate appointment.

Your previous academic experience dictates your advising pathway:

Advising Path One

Enroll in recommended first-quarter classes and schedule an appointment with a program advisor once classes begin.

NO ART OR DESIGN CLASSES TO TRANSFER TO BC, and any of the following:

  • No previous college credits
  • Previous college credits but no degree
  • Associate of Arts degree, preferably a Direct Transfer Agreement (DTA type)
  • Baccalaureate or Graduate degree
  • Previous credits or degrees from an international college or university

In situations where students have NO art or design classes to transfer to BC, it is not necessary to meet with a Program Advisor. You’re encouraged to follow the three-year curriculum plan outlined in the advising packet you receive at the advising orientation.  Since the first quarter classes contain only art or interior design classes that you’ve never had, it’s very straightforward. Sometime during your first quarter, though, we encourage you to meet with the Program Advisor or other full-time faculty member, or Program Chair, to transfer any general education classes they might have taken elsewhere, and to determine what additional general education courses – if any – are still required.

Advising Path Two

Make an appointment with the Program Advisor as soon as possible, after attending an advising orientation

If you have art, design, or architectural college credits to transfer, including any prior degrees, you must see a Program Advisor before deciding on what classes to take. Your previous classes or degree may transfer in substitution for our Art foundation or Design courses and may change the recommended first quarter classes, as well as your future curriculum plan.

International Students

If you have any college credits or degrees from international colleges or universities, you must see a Program Advisor so that we can review which, if any, classes will transfer to Bellevue College. We must verify whether the school(s) you attended meets the equivalent institutional accreditation standards of Bellevue College before these credits can be transferred to your BC student transcript.
You must also follow one of these advising pathways described above to determine your first quarter classes:

  • Advising Path One
  • Advising Path Two

Entry Code Policy

Entry codes are required to enroll in any Special Topic or Independent Study course, or to enroll in a class for which an override of course prerequisites is required. You must be eligible for an override and you must follow instructions when requesting entry codes. Please read the Entry Code Policy before submitting your request.
