Chemistry Placement Exam
This Exam is for students who plan to take Chemistry 161. If you have not completed Chemistry 121 with a C or better, you need to take this exam to receive placement into Chemistry 161.

Testing Policy
- The exam is offered as a computer-based test. It has 40 multiple-choice questions, each question has one point.
- The exam is timed. The total time allowed is 60 minutes.
- You need a score of 60% (24 out of 40 points) to receive placement into Chemistry 161.
- The placement result is good for one year.
- You can take the exam up to two times a quarter (only 1 retake, for no additional fee).
- You may retake the exam one week after your first attempt.
- If you take it twice and still do not pass, you will need to wait until the next quarter to take it again.
- If you retake within the same quarter, no additional fee is required.
- If you retake the exam in a later quarter, you need to pay a new fee at the time you take the exam.
Test Fee
- The test fee is $21.50
- The test fee is non-refundable.
- You pay the fee at the Assessment Office on the test day. We only accept check, credit or debit card for payment.
- Bring your payment on your test day unless you are retaking the exam in the same quarter.

How to Register for the Exam
Pre-registration is not required. Here are the steps for taking the exam:
- View the available test sessions on the test schedule above and select a day and time that work for you.
- Go to the Assessment Office by the time of the session you want to test (must arrive on time).
- Bring a valid photo ID and your BC student ID number.
- Register and pay for the test at the Assessment Office before taking the test. We only accept check, debit or credit card.
- Allow one hour and 30 minutes to complete the exam (including the time for checking in and out).
NOTE:
- You must arrive on time for the session you want to test. You will not be admitted to the test room if you arrive late.
- Due to limited seat availability, examinees are accepted on a first come first serve basis.

Test Day
On the test day, arrive on time for your session. Those arriving late will NOT be allowed to test. Schedule one hour and 30 minutes to complete the exam (including the time for checking in and out).
I. What To Bring On Test Day

Bring a valid photo identification (you will not be able to test without a picture ID).

Bring your BC Student ID number.

Bring the payment for the test fee. We only accept check, debit or credit card. The fee must be paid before you can take the exam unless you are retaking the test in the same quarter.
II. Important Regulations

Calculator is allowed, but no notes or cell phone.

This is a computerized test and is timed. The total time allowed is 60 minutes. Scratch paper and pencil will be provided by the testing center.

You will receive your score and placement right after the exam.

Recording the exam or reproducing it is strictly prohibited.

No bags or back packs are allowed in the testing room. Lockers are available if you need to store your personal items, you may also leave your belongings in your car or with your family or friends.

No drinks or food in the testing room.

No hats, coats or jackets that have pockets are allowed in the testing room.

No breaks are allowed during the test.

Cell phone use is prohibited. If your phone makes noise, or you are seen using it at any time, you will be dismissed immediately and your test will be canceled. This policy also applies to any other prohibited digital and/or electronic devices such as BlackBerrys, CD players, pagers, PDAs, cameras, and other photographic equipment and separate timers of any kind.
Prepare for the Exam
Visit the Chemistry department website for the topics covered on the placement exam.
Inclement Weather and Emergency
Check the college homepage for campus closure due to inclement weather or any emergency. If the college campus is closed, no test will be available. If conditions are dangerous, do not attempt to travel to the test center.
